FAQ

HOW LONG DOES IT TAKE TO MAKE A CUSTOM PIECE OF JEWELRY?

Once we’ve committed to a design I typically quote 4 weeks for a custom piece, but this timeframe varies based on the project.  If you need a custom order rushed or have a deadline, we can discuss specifics and I always do my best to accommodate you.

do you provide physical drawings and models of the custom designs?

Typically yes - a CAD (computer aided design) is created after the design direction is agreed upon - see my Instagram feed for examples of this. From that drawing, I can show you a physical wax model for you to approve. This is the best time to make any adjustments before the metal casting is produced.

IS THERE A MINIMUM COST FOR CUSTOM ORDERS?

I have made jewelry for clients in all budgets. Keep in though, that while there is not necessarily a minimum cost, I only make and source fine jewelry.

WHAT IS THE PROCESS FOR A DIAMOND ENGAGEMENT RING?

We start with looking at diamonds! I use my amazing network of diamond dealers to curate the best selection of stones for you, taking into consideration your budget and stone preference that would have been discussed during our first conversation. Once we nail the stone down, we work on creating the setting around that. You are involved in the process, approving drawings, wax models, etc. It’s a really enjoyable experience!

i’m a designer - CAN I COME TO YOU WITH MY OWN cad DESIGN?

Sure!  I call this service ‘Design-Assist’ where I help refine your design with my understanding of jewelry fabrication processes and the limitations of material. I then work with my fabricators to bring it to life.

DO YOU TAKE ON LARGE QUANTITY CUSTOM DESIGN ORDERS?

Absolutely! Bridal party gifts, corporate gifts, graduation rings, etc. in all different budgets.  I’ve done quite a few of these and can make suggestions for gifts if you are stumped.

WHERE ARE YOU LOCATED?

Brooklyn, but I can meet anywhere in NYC, Westchester County, and parts of Long Island, Connecticut and New Jersey.  If you’re long-distance I can work with you via phone and Skype.

HOW DO I PAY YOU?

For custom items I require a 25% non-refundable deposit to start the work and the balance is due upon delivery.  If I am sourcing an item for you, the full payment is due upon delivery. I accept payment online by Visa, MasterCard, Discover and Amex via PayPal, bank transfer, or certified check.  If you prefer to use a different method of payment such as Venmo, please contact me.

DO YOU USE CONFLICT-FREE DIAMONDS AND GEMSTONES?

I work with vendors who are committed to doing their part to source stones responsibly. I always take into consideration the environmental and ethical impacts of purchasing stones, and am developing ways in which I can be a bigger part of the on-going conversation.  I am well-versed in this topic, so if you have any questions feel free to reach out.

do you buy jewelry?

Yes, I buy fine antique and vintage jewelry from all eras, as well as certain contemporary pieces.  I have a strong background in secondary market jewelry buying and can offer very competitive prices. If you are making a custom piece with me, you can also use old jewelry as credit towards the new purchase. If you have jewelry that you are considering selling, whether it’s an entire estate collection or just one piece, let me know!

how do I care for my fine jewelry?

Your jewelry should be stored in a box or pouch to avoid scratching.

To clean your diamond jewelry at home, gently scrub with a soft bristle toothbrush using a mixture of warm water and mild, unscented dish soap. Pat Dry then finish with a polishing cloth. Be sure to always check for loose stones before and after cleaning.

*Take extra caution with pearls, opals, turquoise and emeralds. These stones should not be submerged in water or cleaned with any chemicals, abrasives or solvents.

Always keep your jewelry away from chemicals including perfume, hair spray, and household cleaning products.

Remember to always remove your jewelry before showering, swimming, working-out, cleaning, cooking and gardening.
